Saturday, Dec. 24, marked the Second Annual Community Christmas Breakfast event in East Dallas, hosted by Vickery Wholesale Green House and local businesses. Christmas cheer, smiles and laughter were plentiful at St. Marks Baptist Church on the morning of Christmas Eve.

Volunteers began cooking at 5 a.m., preparing a delicious breakfast consisting of scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, toast and coffee, all in an effort to help make Christmas better for those in the community.

Thanks to the generous donations, more than 300 families received breakfast, toys and all the fixings for a grand Christmas dinner.

Mr. Pat Berry and Ms. Shawn Busari organized this year’s event. “We have been blessed and wanted to do something special to give back to the community,” Berry said. Residents filled the parish hall and chatted during breakfast.

“It feels so good to do something like this because you get to see the smiles on their faces and the tears in their eyes, knowing how thankful the residents are. It just makes your heart warm,” Busari said.

Volunteers also went out into the community to deliver a warm breakfast and Christmas turkey to the senior citizens who weren’t able to attend the event. “It’s our gift to the community,” Berry said, “and it spreads love on Christmas and throughout the year.”

On behalf of the residents, neighbors would like to extend their heartfelt warmth and thanks to the generous contributions collected by Vickery Wholesale Greenhouse and their clients, local businesses on East Grand Avenue, St. Mark’s Baptist Church and the East Grand Community Corridor Coalition. Their contributions made it possible to fulfill the mission again this year to provide for the community members, and it couldn’t have done it without the tireless volunteers who provided energy, spirit and talent in making this event come to fruition.

It was a wonderful experience for all and the community is very grateful to everyone for their contribution in the success of this wonderful event.
