This petition is in support of CHANGING the site of the DISD’s new O.M. Roberts Elementary School from 4919 East Grand Ave. to the DISD’s alternate site located on 4212 East Grand Ave.
The new O.M. Roberts School is scheduled to begin construction in August of 2012. DISD has chosen to eliminate properties located on Philip Avenue, Gurley Avenue and the Vickery Wholesale Property (“Our Neighborhood”). The residents residing on these streets are Elderly, Disabled and some are Veterans.
DISD is offering minimal compensation for their homes some of these residents will become homeless, the Vickery Wholesale will be forced to close it’s doors after 58 years and the Vickery’s employee’s will become unemployed if the DISD proceeds with construction of the new school at 4919 East Grand Ave.
The alternate site at 4212 East Grand Ave. has sufficient acreage for the new school without displacing the current residents of Our Neighborhood.
We have requested that DISD change the site plans and construct the new O.M. Roberts School at the alternate site; please sign below in support of this Save Our Neighborhood Petition.

Jennifer Roberts Ratliff,
In an era where tax payers are looking at the reduction of educational expenses, it seems a damn shame and downright decadent for any money to be put toward the O.M. Roberts school. Let's get our priorities straight!
I believe that there is better areas to build a school instead of taking family homes that some have been in families for decades!
